Work Preparation
Work Preparation is a Government initiative for people who are looking to return to work after a period of ill health, or for people with a disability who are interested in work and would benefit from a short programme that supports their individual needs.
The programme is run by Paperworks on behalf of JobCentre Plus.
It helps people answer the question they often have:
“Am I ready to work?”
Paperworks works together with Job Centre Plus to support their customers with their job search activities.
The Work Prep programme helps the customer to:
- Identify what work they can do
- Look for work successfully
- Develop and retain work
Attending the Work Prep programme does not affect a customer’s benefits.
Different people benefit from different work-focused activities and support. Therefore each Work Prep programme is unique to the customer.
At Paperworks we always makes sure the support we give matches the needs of the person being supported. Some things that a Work Preperation programme usually includes are:
- support to identify appropriate job choices
- advice on completing CVs and application forms
- help with interview skills and techniques .
For some customers, the programme may start with a period of assessment at Paperworks – finding out about their skills and capacity.
At the end of the programme Job Cebntre Plus customers will have a clear picture of their skills and what work may suit them best. Some may have secured a job, or started a volunteer role. Others will have developed an actions plan, that could include further work preparation goals, job search activities, training or further education.
