Basic Work Skills

Work opens many opportunities for people but gaining the experience and skills for work can be difficult. This is a particular problem if  you haven't worked before or out of work for a long time.

Paperworks supports people to develop the skills and confidence needed and gain experiences to help them progress into work.

Placements are usually part-time, allowing other activities to be combined with Paperworks training. We work with each person to identify and agree areas for skills development or new experience opportunities.

This could be general skills development around:

  • Improving communication
  • Maintaining independence
  • Health & safety
  • Self development
  • Time management
  • Travelling

We also work with people on specific work-focused activity such as:

  • Learning and using basic computer skills
  • Identifying job choices
  • Customer service
  • Attendance
  • Writing a CV and interview skills
  • Team working
  • Following instructions

We use individual coaching, group training and accredited courses to promote development.

The length of training programme varies depending on individual needs. Some people use a rolling programme of development, with the aim of maintaining existing skills.

We organize and support people to complete work experience placements away from Paperworks. This includes identifying suitable types or work, finding a suitable placement and working with both employer and employee during the placement.

Once a training customer is ready to progress into work, we are in contact with other support projects that can help people find work and support them in work.

We encourage anyone who is interested in training at Paperworks to arrange a visit, to see what we do.
